I have had no formal training as an artist but alongside music have always found drawing and painting to be the primary means of creative expression. I work in a variety of media but mostly with oil paint. The ideas that propel my work emerge of their own volition in their initial conception in the same way that dreams arise unbidden and unexpected; then follows the process of research and refinement until something resembling the original idea emerges. The underlying theme in the paintings seems to be a sense that something is about to happen or is already happening that is hidden to the central protagonist/s. Perhaps this reflects the uncertainty of the times we are living in or maybe it’s an exploration of the human condition, possibly both, conceivably neither.
