Kate Fraser’s paintings focus on the structures and spaces of urban and industrial environments - railways, bridges, gas containers, wind farms - the landscape of the modern era. Observed from ‘outside’ like stage sets, they remain ‘off-limits’, uninhabited by public activity.

As the world’s energy resources dwindle and our energy demands increase, the landscape will change accordingly. Gas containers will rust, coal silos and conveyors will cease to function, perhaps wind turbines will take the place of lost forests on windswept hills.
